David Bentley, who pulled out of England's U-21 squad for the European Championship in June was named by coach Steve McClaren in the 26-man squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers against Israel and Russia yesterday.

Aston Villa striker Ashley Young, who played an influential role for the U-21 side in those finals in the Netherlands was also included in the squad.

David Beckham was left out after suffering a knee injury playing for LA Galaxy this week with West Ham United midfielder Kieron Dyer also absent after breaking a leg in a League Cup match on Tuesday.

Goalkeepers: Robinson (Tottenham), James (Portsmouth), Carson (Aston Villa).

Defenders: Richards (Man. City), Brown, Ferdinand (both Man. Utd), Terry, A. Cole (both Chelsea), Campbell (Portsmouth), Neville (Everton), Shorey (Reading).

Midfield: Bentley (Blackburn), Gerrard (Liverpool), Lampard, J. Cole, Wright-Phillips (all Chelsea), Hargreaves, Carrick (both Man. United), Barry (Aston Villa), Downing (Middlesbrough).

Forwards: Young (Aston Villa), Smith, Owen (both Newcastle), Crouch (Liverpool), Johnson (Everton), Defoe (Tottenham).
