Talks between the Bakers' Cooperative and the Ministry for Competitiveness on the price of a Maltese loaf will continue on Monday following a cordial meeting yesterday, a ministry spokesman said.

Bakers want either to be allowed to increase the cost of the Maltese loaf by 2c or for the government to increase its subsidy on bread after the price of a sack of flour soared by Lm1.60 a few days ago.

Competitiveness Minister Censu Galea has said the subsidy demanded by bakers would cost the government an additional Lm11,000 a week.
