With the general election on the horizon, the propaganda of the two main political parties will start in earnest. I believe that in the next election the voter must cast his vote freely and intelligently without falling for the usual traps laid by the two main parties.

An election must give the voters an option to elect representatives, and represent is something the two main political parties have failed to do. Both the PN and the MLP have disappointed the voter where credibility is concerned. In the forthcoming election we must make sure democracy works at its best, in order to have an efficient political system where ideas are in abundance.

Without a doubt, the PN and the MLP will set out on a campaign of fear. We will come across the usual pathetic comments. For example the PN will say that "Every vote not given to PN gives an advantage to the MLP". Meanwhile we will hear the same comments conversely from the MLP.

Such comments continue to divide the nation in two, when we know that we have a lot of capable people who are neither in the Nationalist nor in the Labourite camp. It is high time that the Maltese voter looks out for himself and this island's future, and no longer for some party. We must bring an end to this cowboys-and-indians-style politics.
