No to rape of Madliena

An application has been submitted to Mepa - 03314/07 - to demolish an existing villa and replace it with apartments and basement garage. I write on behalf of all the residents in this area of central Madliena (names and address can be supplied) who are strongly opposed to any redevelopment of this area into flats of whatever nature.

According to the local plan as approved by Mepa in July 2006 (North Harbour Local Plan, Swieqi North Madliena Policy Map SWI) and endorsed by the Minister for the Environment and Rural Affairs, George Pullicino, this area is clearly marked as residential Priority Area NHHO - 02 (detached and semi-detached dwellings).

The residents are adamant that what happened in Swieqi, with the brutal demolition and rape of beautiful villas, will not happen in this part of Madliena and are prepared to take all the necessary action at law to safeguard what is rightfully theirs and to prevent the rape of Madliena as is being proposed in this application.
