For the second time running i-Tech is a finalist in the Malta Journalism Awards organised by the Institute of Maltese Journalists (IGM). The names of the finalists of the 17th edition of the awards were announced last week.
Articles by Martin Debattista on how Finnish heavy metal group Lordi won last year's Eurovision Song Contest thanks to an internet-based campaign, the use of the Maltese language in ICT and the rise of citizen journalism in Malta made it to the final of the features section of the print category sponsored by Vodafone Malta.
The other two finalists in this category, Vanessa Macdonald and Joanna Ripard, also hail from The Times and The Sunday Times, respectively.
The other finalists from Allied Newspapers are photographers Matthew Mirabelli and Darrin Zammit Lupi and contributors Lino Bugeja and Benny Pace.
The two finalists in the e-journalism category sponsored by SmartCity Malta are the maltastar.com team, namely Kurt Farrugia, Alfred Grixti and David Vella, and MaltaMedia.com's blogger Pierre J. Mejlak. This is the fourth time in five years that MaltaMedia has reached the final of this category, having already won three editions. The winners picked from the 29 finalists will be announced in a ceremony to be held in the coming weeks.
