Michael Mifsud yesterday played a prime role in Coventry City's qualification to the third round of the English League Cup. The Malta striker, making a rare start for the Championship side, scored both goals as the Sky Blues beat Carlisle 2-0.

The former Lillestroem forward put Coventry ahead in the 21st minute with a firm drive and then headed in the second goal on 56 minutes to seal his team's qualification to the third round.

Mifsud will hope that his performance yesterday will be enough to convince manager Iain Dowie to hand him a league start when Coventry host Preston North End at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday.
