Yet another international personality has landed in Malta this summer - world-famous conductor Riccardo Muti, who has accepted to be the honorary president of the recently announced Mediterranean Music Academy.
Mro Muti, considered to be one of the greatest musicians of his time, arrived from Rome yesterday to conduct an unprecedented Seminar on Italian Opera over the next week, attracting foreigners to follow him. The seminar is part of the launch of the Academy, which starts operating in Malta in October 2008.
During his week-long stay, the undisputed music authority, who has a particular penchant for Malta, is also conducting his Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchetra in two concerts - one at the Mediterranean Conference Centre on Sunday and the other at St John's Co-Cathedral on Wednesday.
