Cinema Contest Winner

Cecilia Camilleri has won the Eden Cinema competition consisting of a free stay in Budapest and two concert tickets to see the Black Eyed Peas in September. The total value of the prize is about Lm1,000.

Participants were asked to buy their cinema ticket online to be entered into the competition.

Following this, Abel and Elinor, 89.7 Bay's breakfast show hosts called up entrants asking them to identify Black Eyed Peas tunes on air - the person to label the correct song names to the lyrics would be the winner.

Gozo Carnival

The organising committee of the Gozo Regional Carnival 2008 within the Ministry for Gozo has published the applications and regulations for participation in the Gozo Regional Carnival 2008 competitions for the Triumphant Floats Section A, Triumphant Floats Section B, Companies: Costume and Dance (Adult), Grotesque Masks, Children Individual Costumes, Children Grotesque Costumes and Triumphant Float King Carnival.

Application forms are available from the Culture Office, Banca Giuratale, Independence Square, Victoria and are to be returned by October 19 between 9 and 11 a.m.

Gozo Mass

The Diocesan Commission for Graduates' Activities will be holding a Mass for graduates and members of all professions in Gozo on September 7. Fr Reuben Micallef will be officiating the Mass at St Augustine's church, in Victoria at 8.30 p.m. Confessions will be heard from 8 p.m.

Balzan Traffic Diversions

Triq Birbal in Balzan from corner with Vjal de Paul, up to corner with Triq il-Kannizzata will be closed to vehicular traffic as from tomorrow.

Triq il-Kannizzata from corner with Triq Birbal up to corner with Triq il-Ferrovia il-Qadima and Triq il-Kbira from corner with Triq il-Wied Hal-Balzan up to Triq San Frangisk will be open to two-way vehicular traffic.

Triq il-Kardinal Cardjin will be open to traffic in the direction towards Triq Birbal.

On street parking on Triq il-Kardinal Cardjin; on Triq il-Kannizzata from corner with Triq Birbal up to corner with Triq il-Ferrovija l-Qadima and on Triq il-Kbira, corner with Triq San Frangisk and along both sides of Triq San Frangisk corner with Triq il-Kbira will not be permitted.

Vehicular traffic from Triq Birkirkara in the direction towards Triq Birbal, will either be diverted to Vjal de Paul, Triq il Ferrovija il-Qadima, Triq il- Kannizzata and Triq Birbal or to Triq il-Kbira or to Triq il-Kannizzata and then on to Triq il-Ferrovija l-Qadima, Vjal de Paul and Triq Birkirkara.

Qormi Traffic Diversions

Triq Manuel Dimech in Qormi from corner with Triq Qormi will be closed to traffic and public transport on Wednesday and Thursday between 6.30 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Traffic and public transport from Mdina Road in the direction of Valletta will be diverted through Triq L-Iljun, Triq it-Tigrija and Triq Qormi.

Traffic and public transport from Triq Hal Qormi in the direction towards Zebbug will be diverted to Triq il-Kbira to Triq San Bastjan, Triq San Bartolomew and Triq Guze Duca.

Prayer Meeting

The Our Lady of Consecration committee will hold a prayer meeting at Girgenti, Siggiewi on Sunday at 6 p.m.

Maritime History

Pierre Sammut, head of finance and business development at Heritage Malta, recently presided over the second steering committee meeting of the EU-funded project Mercator, in Alicante, Spain.

Co-financed under the Interreg IIIB Medocc Programme, Measure 1.1, Mercator is aimed at the study, understanding and valorisation of various facets of Mediterranean maritime history. The emphasis is on mercantile activity around the coast.

The partner countries represented at the meeting, Malta, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Greece, discussed the progress made and decided on the plan of action until the next committee meeting next month.

Ghajnsielem Phones

The telephone service of Go customers residing in Ghajnsielem may be temporarily disrupted today, between 8.30 a.m. and 11 p.m. due to planned cable network maintenance.

Drugs Policy Consultation

The National Commission on the Abuse of Drugs, Alcohol and Other Dependencies, in conjunction with the Policy Development and Programme Implementation Directorate within the Ministry for the Family and Social Solidarity, will hold consultation meeting on the draft National Drugs Policy tomorrow at the Robert Samut Hall in Floriana at 9 a.m.

A copy of the draft policy may be found on www.mfss.gov.mt.

Entrance is free but prior reservation is required. All interested parties are requested to confirm their attendance by phoning 2590 3132 or by e-mail at drugspolicy@gov.mt.

No Bathing At Fond Ghadir

The Department of Public Health has notified that until further notice, bathing is not recommended at Fond Ghadir in Sliema in the vicinity of Site Code B 12 due to sewage overflow.

Health warning signs indicating the exact zones involved have been erected in the area.
