The first building on this site was a chapel dedicated to St Leonard built in 1656 by Nardu Sammut from Vittoriosa. A country house was built near the chapel in later years, the last occupant of which was known as il-Barunissa who lived in the property till the outbreak of the Second World War. Adjacent to the house was an old cattle farm and yard that were replaced by a large garage during the 1980s. On the rear of the property were extensive gardens overlooking the coast in which one could find a large nymphaeum. Parts of the gardens were developed as a pig farm during the 1980s.
The property is in a dilapidated state due to neglect, vandalism, misappropriate use, and indiscriminate development. During the late 1970s the property was used as a location for the filming of a television series called Id-Dar tas-Soru by which appellation it is most commonly known today.
