Every dog has his day, and two stray dogs rescued by the Gozo SPCA are starting a new life in Germany after being sent there courtesy of the Minister of Rural Affairs and the Environment, George Pullicino, Air Malta and ITV Grenzenlos, an animal welfare society in Germany.

This was a first for Gozo SPCA and its personnel are very grateful to Noah's Ark Sanctuary for the advice and assistance they gave in handling the animals at the airport.

Within two days, Cassidy and Possum had been rehomed. Cassidy's story is typical of too many - he was found last year abandoned on the streets, starving and with a severe infection in many dog bites.

He was nursed back to health and slowly regained his confidence in people, although it was obvious that he had been horribly abused.

"His was a tragic story with a happy ending," SPCA Gozo manager Betty Berry said.
