I refer to a number of genuine concerns raised by Sandra Bianco (The Sunday Times, August 19) about services Mater Dei Hospital will offer to children currently using Wonderland ward in St Luke's Hospital.

Today's Wonderland will be renamed the Rainbow Unit at Mater Dei. This name has been chosen following consultations with both staff and parents.

The Rainbow Unit is a distinct ward with distinct and separate rooms, distinct staff and facilities. The quality of care will not be compromised by the move to Mater Dei Hospital.

There are ongoing discussions involving the highest officials of the hospital management to ensure complete separation of Rainbow Ward from Wonderland, to the satisfaction of staff, management and parents.

This will further ensure that the services offered at Mater Dei Hospital are of a high quality.

Unfortunately, there have been rumours and a number of recent press reports that this particular department at Mater Dei will not continue to offer the same level of service as offered at present. This is completely unfounded.
