Anybody living in Sliema will tell you how the quality of life is deteriorating every year. Finding a parking place has become a nightmare. We have become prisoners in our own homes since no one can afford to go out by car and lose their precious parking space.

It has come to my knowledge that a number of beautiful houses in Sir Adrian Dingli Street are to be pulled down and flats built in their place, with no underground garages being built. The owners are being fined a measly Lm900 per flat for not having to build garages. What may I ask are the authorities going to do with this money? Buy more yellow paint maybe? No matter, it certainly will not do the present residents any good and the situation is bound to get worse. Sliema is one of the few towns left which does not have residential parking.

Future buyers of these soon to be erected flats (without garages) simply do not know what they are letting themselves in for. They will soon learn about the torment and frustration people in Sliema who have lived here all their lives are going through, and have become victims of a flawed system. All I can say to all potential newcomers is "Welcome to the rat race".
