The number of non-fatal accidents at work between April and June went down by 1.4 per cent to 1,079 when compared to the same quarter last year, the National Statistics Office said yesterday.

However, there were three fatal accidents compared to one in the same period last year.

A third of work-related accidents happened in manufacturing (33.4 per cent), followed by construction (15.2 per cent), transport, storage, and communication (9.9 per cent), and wholesale and retail trade (9.3 per cent).

Most accidents involved people employed in elementary occupations and craft/trades work and 41 per cent of them workers under 35.

Most work-related injuries occur in the upper extremities of the body. Wounds and superficial injuries featured in 455 (42.2 per cent) of these mishaps.
