Hyundai is endlessly striving to ensure the safety of drivers, passengers and pedestrians. To enhance the level of vehicle safety, at the initial stages of a vehicle's development, Hyundai conducts super-computer simulations testing a wide variety of collision situations and applies what it has learned from these tests to its safety conscious product designs.

Through vehicle-on-vehicle collision tests that are similar to actual accidents, Hyundai is developing vehicles that have been thoroughly tested and evaluated for optimum customer safety. Such efforts not only allow Hyundai to ensure safety in actual collisions, but it also allow them to be proactive in developing the intelligent Advanced Safety Vehicle (ASV) that can predict accidents before they actually happen and thus prevent them.

When the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a US government agency that evaluates vehicle safety, conducted front and side impact collision tests, Hyundai received the highest score of five stars for the Sonata and Tucson for two consecutive years, 2006 and 2007, and for the New Santa Fe in 2007, thereby proving the highest level of safety in the categories of mid-sized passenger cars and mid-sized SUVs, respectively.
