Dun Karm Sant Tarxien Primary is involved in a Comenius project entitled Web magazine (www.webmagazine.edu.gr) which involves pupils in years 4, 5 and 6 from partner schools in Denmark, Norway, Italy, Greece and Malta uploading and downloading on the Website essays in English and drawings on topics such as "It's Me!", "My Friend", and "Free Time", with the aim of stimulating pupils to correspond with each other and to introduce them to different cultures.
The Tarxien primary has also launched its own Website: http://schoolnet.gov.mt/tarxienprimaryc, which includes a link to the Web magazine site.
In the next scholastic year, the local school plans to go a step further by embarking on a video conferencing project with the Danish and the Norwegian partner schools respectively.
The ultimate aim of this latter project is to enable pupils to learn more through the spoken word.
Recently, Dione Cassar, acting head of the Tarxien primary, attended the second project partners meeting, hosted by Nørre Nebel School in Henne Strand, Denmark, to finalise the Comenius project's year and to discuss possible improvements. The visit to Denmark was made possible thanks to financial support from the European Commission.
The five partners' representatives visited as many of the host school's classes as possible to gather first-hand information and feedback from the pupils about the project, and subsequently discussed and analysed the pupils' views.
It was a moving experience listening to the Danish boys and girls asking questions about Malta, the local school and its pupils.
