An adaptation by Ruth Borg Galea of the famous tale The Emperor's New Clothes was this year's prize day performance at Guzè Delia Primary School, Siggiewi, which was held on June 13 in the school's newly constructed hall.

It was launched with the new school anthem, written by Pawlu Aquilina, a former school head, and sung by the school choir under the professional direction of Claire Cardona, who composed the music.

The show was a spectacle of drama, music and dance, the result of a superb effort by most of the school staff. All Year 6 pupils prepared for it after they had laid aside their pens and books for their Junior Lyceum exams, and they did their utmost to make it the success it proved to be.

The school's art teacher produced the backdrop and the artistic props, while the school council's parents and helpers skilfully made the costumes. Pupils, teachers and facilitators worked incessantly conducting rehearsal sessions even after school hours. The hard work paid off as the performance given on the day was of a very high standard and it delighted the large audience present.

After the performance, school head Jane Axisa spoke about how the school strives towards the holistic development of every individual. Her speech was accompanied by a professional PowerPoint presentation prepared by assistant head Patrick Decelis, which illustrated the various school activities held during the scholastic year.

Paul Attard, college co-ordinator, said he was impressed with the pupils' talented performance. He encouraged parental involvement and urged parents to take pride in their children's progress.

He then awarded prizes to the pupils, which were given not only to celebrate their academic achievement but also the great effort that they put into their work according to their potential. Other prizes were awarded for positive personal traits, such as initiative, leadership, creativity and solidarity.

Education Minister Louis Galea, who attended the event together with Mrs Galea, also delivered a short speech.

Well done to all the teachers, facilitators, and pupils, whose hard work made the prize day such a memorable event.
