Oliver! at Bahrija primary prize day

For this year's prize day at Patri Tumas Xerri School, Bahrija, which was held on June 1, pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6 performed in the musical Oliver!, with a Year 3 pupil acting the title role, and the school choir sang various songs.

Headmistress Antoinette Baldacchino said a school project that deserved special mention was the very first issue of the school's own magazine entitled Id f'Id. A lot of work went into this magazine, but seeing that it was so well received made it all worthwhile, and an issue was produced during each term.

Ms Baldacchino mentioned the various activities organised throughout the year as well as the projects carried out to enhance the school and its environment. She thanked the staff and parents for their co-operation and participation, and stressed the value of rewarding the pupils' effort, behaviour, creativity and other talents, besides their academic achievements.

Before awarding prizes to the pupils, Alfred Mallia, director of operations at the Education Division, said he was very impressed with the school's achievements, considering that it was such a small school.

He urged parents to listen to their children, to help them when needed, to praise their efforts and not to be afraid to show that they loved them.

A reception was afterwards held in the school grounds.
