The kindergarten classes of Madonna tal-Mensija San Gwann Primary presented themes from the musical Oliver! and Snow White and the seven dwarfs at an end of year performance held on May 31 in the school hall.

It came as no surprise that the children sang beautifully in English, demonstrating their evident exposure to the language.

Throughout the scholastic year the pupils have been enjoying stories and nursery rhymes in English at school, and at home the parents have been reading to their children stories in English from books borrowed from school.

English is our second language rather than a foreign language, so such exposure is the recommended in Malta for children to learn the language.

The kindergarten children also presented a Maltese play written by their teachers. They acted with such self-confidence and ease that one would think them much older than their tender age.

The much-loved and respected Mro Ray Storace provided his musical expertise for the performance and accompanied the children on the piano. Therese Briffa, a staff member, also delighted the audience with her exceptional playing on the violin.

The collaboration among the teaching staff and with the parents in preparation for the show was truly exceptional, involving daily rehearsals, the procurement of some costumes and sewing of others, the production of stage props and the putting on of make up.

Without a shadow of doubt, the stakeholders of the kindergarten classes will fondly remember this end of scholastic year performance.
