Van der Meyde: Everton have suspended troubled Dutch midfielder Andy van der Meyde for missing training, the club said yesterday. Van der Meyde, 27, joined Everton from Inter two years ago but, constantly hampered by injuries and off-field dramas, failed to establish himself in the first team. Last April he made a public apology to David Moyes after accusing his manager of lying as the two men argued about his fitness.

Diaby: Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby has pulled out of the France squad for friendlies against Slovakia's A and B teams next week. The French Football Federation said Diaby would be replaced by Toulouse's Jeremy Mathieu.

Iniesta: Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta has said his team-mates will have to learn to accept time on the bench given the increased competition in the squad. "One day it will be your turn and the next someone else's but the important thing is that we all know how to accept a spell on the bench," Iniesta said.

FIFA funds: FIFA could pull the plug on funding for Indonesia if clubs fail to settle transfer fee disputes with foreign players and agents. Max Boboy, who is in charge of player transfers for Indonesia's soccer federation, said foreign players and agents were owed $372,340 in transfer fees and had threatened to take their case to FIFA. He urged the clubs to pay up and warned that FIFA might impose sanctions on Indonesia if the dispute was not settled.

Roma: Monaco, visiting Sochaux today, face five weeks without goalkeeper Flavio Roma. The Italian has a torn thigh muscle.

Michel: Morocco have sacked coach M'Hamed Fakhir and selected Frenchman Henri Michel in his place. The much-travelled 59-year-old Michel, who was in charge of Ivory Coast at the 2006 World Cup, had a previous spell as Morocco coach, steering them to the 1998 World Cup in France.
