The mayor of St Paul's Bay has filed a complaint against One TV with the Institute of Journalists over a report which, he alleged, was "full of lies and misinformation".
One News reported that mayor Paul Bugeja had been interrogated by the police in connection with allegations of mismanagement within the council.
Mr Bugeja said he and his deputy went to the police headquarters to assist the police as "every citizen is expected to do to help an investigation". The mayor said that the police had not cautioned him or even hinted that he or his deputy were under investigation or were requested to release a statement to the police.
Moreover, he complained about a video montage in which two men are shown exchanging money with the second one pocketing the cash, an allusion, the mayor said, that someone, he or another councillor, had taken some backhander.
