Silvano Azzopardi, 36 of Naxxar, was yesterday granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm1,000 after he was accused of manufacturing fireworks on a farm that was not licensed as a fireworks factory.

He was further charged with running a fireworks factory without a permit and keeping pyrotechnics without a licence.

Inspectors Kevin J. Farrugia and Mario Haber prosecuted. Dr Michael Falzon, who appeared for the accused, argued that the charges were misleading because they gave the impression that his client had a quantity of pyrotechnics and was running some factory when all he had was some powder used in Catherine wheels, and a metal wheel fixed to a piece of wood.
