Former Soft Cell singer for 1980s extravaganza

Former Soft Cell singer Marc Almond will perform in Malta during ReflexMania, a massive 1980s music event to be put on by Reflex Promotions at the Eden Arena in St Julians on September 8.

DJ and Radio Presenter Alex Grech told The Times: "It is fantastic to have one of the best 80s singers at one of our parties and everyone is looking forward to Marc Almond's live performance. After all he is surely a great artist and a 1980s icon".

"Marc Almond shall sing most of his hits from the Soft Cell days such as the No 1 Hit Single Tainted Love, which was one of the best selling singles in the 80s. Other Soft Cell hits would be Bedsitter, Torch and What. His set will also include his single Something Gotta Hold Of My Heart which shot to the UK No 1 spot in 1989 as a duet with Gene Pitney. He will also perform hits from his solo career and tracks from his new album Stardom Road, released this summer," Mr Grech said.

The event will consist of a six-hour show of 1980s music, lights and sound as the Eden Arena will be turned into the largest dance floor on the island. Marc Almond's live performance will be followed by DJ Alex Grech who will churn all the 1980s classic hits till the early hours of Sunday morning.

"Music from New Romantic and Electronic 80s groups which were around during Soft Cell times, such as Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Ultravox and more, will have centre stage. These will blend perfectly with other tunes from Wham, Madonna, A-HA and more which will be played by the Reflex DJ Gang. Malta's very own 80s group X-Tend shall also perform on the night," Mr Grech said.

Tickets are being sold Lm10 (€23.29) per person and can be bought on 9944 8080 and at all Vodafone outlets. A limited number of VIP tickets are being sold at Lm15 (€34.94) per person. Twenty ReflexMania VIP competition winners will get the chance to meet Marc Almond.

"Reflex Promotions have been organising 80s parties for the 25-45 age group for quite some time. Reflex has now become an original brand name in this specialised form of entertainment as it recreates the 80s era and brings the nostalgia and memories back to life," Mr Grech said.
