It looks like the holiday is having the necessary effect. This is the first time I've touched a computer since leaving London last Saturday morning. I've only just checked my

e-mail for the first time in six days (all fine, mostly Facebook friend requests - more of them - and the details for next Wednesday's flight to Barcelona), the computer has only been used as a source of music, and only five minutes ago, when saving this document, I had to ask my mother what date it was because I really could not work it out. The sun, the sea and those three and a half days in Comino have had their way with me, and now the face that holds the weight of the world (as Significant Other refers to it) has been replaced with a calmer, frown-free version. I am now as switched off as I could ever be.

Those three and a half days in Comino - for which I have to thank my hostess from the bottom of my heart - were actually just what I needed. Nothing to do but swim, eat, drink and spend quality time with friends! As one of my fellow guests put it: "Bliss!". Even the constant squabbling of the two six-year-old boys in the party went largely unnoticed. Well, let's say we all dealt with it very well. It was definitely an eye-opener for me, having become their chosen playmate of the trip. It's been a long time since I spent more than an hour with kids of that age!

Talking of kids, I am thrilled to inform you that halfway through my Comino trip, there's been a new addition to the family. Very early on Wednesday morning, just as soon as I was making my way to bed from a night of stargazing, brother phoned me up to announce that sister-in-law had given birth to a baby girl - the first to be born carrying our surname in 60 years! You can imagine what that means to this family!

And that's really all I have to report from this side - well, at least that is of any interest to you. I know, it's brief, and maybe lacking the spirit of the city, but you will appreciate of course, that with my brain constantly on standby, trying to construct a sentence - let alone several paragraphs is - well, very hard work. And I'd rather not see those words adjacent for the time being!
