A total of 130 HSBC staff have been moved to a new business centre, adjacent to the company's Qormi premises, bringing together under one roof the full range of commercial services.
The staff have been moved from the commercial centres in Mosta, Birkirkara, Sliema, Paola and Valletta as well as from the Republic Street offices and the operations centre in Qormi.
Head of commercial banking James Dunbar-Cousin said at the recent opening that the office had centralised all the customer facing and support services for commercial banking.
The 1,800 square metres of open plan offices are complemented by facilities for conferences and business lunches, as well as nine interview rooms for confidential discussions. There is also a car park.
CEO Shaun Wallis said around 15,000 businesses have relationship banking with HSBC, involving Lm900 million worth of transactions.
In line with the HSBC Group's environmental drive, the premises feature a number of energy-saving features. The air-conditioning system is based on a system that is 30 per cent more efficient, while the lighting system uses almost a third less energy, with sensors that turn off lights when no one is in the room. There are also timers on air-conditioning and water heaters. The premises also have a second-class system in place linked to a stormwater reservoir.
