The failure to provide a separate room at Mater Dei Hospital for women who give birth but lose their baby demonstrates the government's insensitivity towards these women's feelings, the Labour Party said yesterday.

Helena Dalli, spokesman for public function, and Michael Farrugia, spokesman on health said that despite the huge sum of money spent on the new hospital, these women will share a ward with new mothers.

At St Luke's Hospital they were separated for obvious reasons, they added. They also pointed out that pregnant women were attending meetings at Mater Dei but would give birth at St Luke's, showing how the opening of the new hospital was only a sham.
