Neapolitan singer/songwriter Gigi D'Alessio delighted audiences with his music at his concert at Manoel Island yesterday.

D'Alessio describes his music as "a blend of Neapolitan, Italian and Mediterranean music, mixed with snapshots of my life and of those I love, plus my classical background, dating back from my period at the conservatory... Add to this my travels and my attitude of looking at the world as a child, always absorbing like a living sponge, and you have Made In Italy and all my previous albums".

D'Alessio had told The Times that if he had to sing a duet, it would be with Shakira and her Arab roots, which are so common in the Neapolitan sound.

His plan was to give the Maltese public "all my energy" at yesterday's concert, promoted by MCK Promotions, and deliver an evening that would be hard to forget.

As to where he would be in 20 years' time, D'Alessio, who is 40, said he hopes to be taking care of his grandchildren, as well as still singing and doing concerts.

"Having said that, I'm a curious person, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what the future holds..."
