As a pharmacist in charge of a Government pharmacy, I felt that certain claims made by Natalino Fenech in "Memorandum of understanding on 'pharmacy of your choice' signed" (The Sunday Times, July 29) should not be left unanswered.
While praising the pharmacy of your choice (POYC) scheme, Mr Fenech alleged that, under the current system, pharmacists are not giving professional advice to the patients collecting their medicines. May I ask Mr Fenech on what basis he is making these allegations?
He should inform himself on the procedures and the working conditions under which pharmacists and pharmacy technicians currently work before making any allegations.
In his report, he also stated that "through the new system, patients may also be advised about new and alternative medicinals". Does that mean that the POYC scheme will include the Medicine of Your Choice?
