A new kind of fusion music at Verdala Palace

The grounds of the Verdala Palace will come to life next week as the Armed Forces band and folkloristic music group Nafra join forces to raise funds for the Malta Community Chest Fund.

This is the first time that the two will be playing together, in a concert organised by the President's Office at the palace grounds.

People will be able to enjoy some classical music, highlights from musicals, comic pieces and folkloristic music during the two-hour concert on Friday.

The AFM band's music, which varies from military marches to classical and popular music, will complement the unique sound of the ethnic prototypes that have become synonymous with Nafra.

The end of the evening will see both music groups interacting to provide music through popular songs.

The AFM Band will be playing the Overture of Ben-Hur and the Concert Prelude for the first time, while two of Nafra's songs - Tlaqna and Halel - will be played for the first time accompanied by a band.

A thousand tickets are for sale from the Palace, Valletta, St James Cavalier and the AFM headquarters. The Verdala Palace will be open for viewing after the show.

Proceeds from the event will go entirely towards the Malta Community Chest Fund which helps persons who are in need, patients who require very expensive medicines and relatives who accompany patients who need to go abroad for specialised treatment.

The published financial accounts show that the MCCF distributes Lm500,000 annually. The collection of such funds is through various activities which are organised by MCCF throughout the year.
