It's August and the city has slowed down. The sun is finally shining and everyone appears to be feeling a lot more relaxed. People are coming from or setting off on holidays, so the mood is generally a positive one. I ventured off to southeast London for dinner with friends on Friday night, and it was a treat to be able to sit outside in the early evening eating excellent fish and chips. The temperature soared up to 30°C by Sunday, which made it a perfect barbecue weather.

Of course my general feeling of well-being is assisted no end by the fact that I will be taking a three-week holiday that will start in Malta and end in Barcelona. In fact, as you read this, I'll be at some point between my flat and my first destination via Luton Airport .

It's been about four years since I spent more than a quick weekend back home, so I'm very excited at the thought of finally having time to settle into the pace of things without having to think of getting a plane back here. I'm practically hyperventilating at the mere idea of four days on Comino, each of which I'm planning to start with an early walk down to the Blue Lagoon before it gets infested by tourists. Mind you, it being Santa Marija weekend, I'll probably get there to find it full of boats, but I can handle that. Sometimes the icing and the cake are enough. The cherry's not always necessary!

This is going to be one well hell of a well-earned holiday. I've been working like crazy since June and my short weekend breaks - fun as they have been - have taken their toll. I'm ready for some down time.

Come September, it'll be full on until the end of the year for me (note how I've avoided the C word. I swear, someone's already mentioned it!). It will all be made even more interesting by the fact that Flatmate will be moving out of the flat - bringing about the end of an era - to be replaced by Signficant Other. (Yes, sofa will be going with her. The search for a replacement has already started).

And with that exciting news, I must close. There are two days at work to look forward to before setting off, and I have to start getting ready for the first of them!
