Nurses at Mtarfa hospital

My name is Ralph Jones, adopted son of Maria Stella Scicluna, who served as a nurse during World War II at the Mtarfa hospital, Malta.

Maria Stella was a close friend of Mimi Cortis who resided with her husband Les in Northolt, north of London with daughters Rite and Charmaine whom we visited during the period of our residence in UK as a family in the village of Middleton Cheney, Banbury, Oxfordshire. Maria Stella passed away in the mid-1980s.

Recently I heard that a book had been published about the war years and features Mimi regularly, but I do not know the name of this book, and I would like to obtain a copy.

Maria Stella told me of her war ordeals especially the story of a Stuka attack on civilians in Sliema, when Stella and her aunt Jolly hid in an alleyway accompanied by a baby in a pram, and survived the attack.

Also of the German Luftwaffe pilot who was shot down and nursed at Mtarfa. His regular violent and rude behaviour was a common occurrence and his throwing of the urine tray was one of the formalities in his rude behaviour.

Regular sedation was necessary and the pilot was gradually rehabilitated before being sent to a prisoner of war camp from where the letters he wrote to Stella and the other nurses helped him back to health. He thanked them for his help and was converted to Christianity.

Stella proceeded to Italy with the American troops, but I do not know the full story and would like a copy of this book.

I would appreciate it, if a reader could inform me of the name of the book and if I can obtain a photo of the nurses, including Stella and Mimi in uniform with the nurses serving at Mtarfa hospital during World War II. Any information returned to me, through The Times, would be thankfully appreciated.
