The police yesterday seized what they alleged were illegally manufactured fireworks in a raid on a farm in Wied Qoton, Birzebbuga.

The Special Branch assisted by the Birzebbuga district police raided the farm at around noon and found a considerable amount of fireworks.

A person was helping the police with their investigation.

Duty magistrate Miriam Hayman was informed of the find and ordered an inquiry. She appointed several experts to help in the investigations.

The Special Squad together with the Gozo district police yesterday also raided a fireworks factory in Gozo to establish if the material used in the factory was acquired according to regulations.

The police said that, in this case, investigations are continuing.

This was the second day in a row that the police organised raids in an effort to clamp down on illegal fireworks.

On Wednesday they seized fireworks manufactured and stored illegally in two raids - one at Qormi, the other in Siggiewi.
