I wish to comment on the article of August 8 entitled Viset Has No Objection To Child Migrants Monument.

The Child Migrants of Malta (C-MOM) is encouraged by Viset Consortium's announcement that it has no objection to the hosting of a monument dedicated to the Maltese former child migrants.

However, C-MOM is not surprised by this development because Malta's Prime Minister, Lawrence Gonzi, had assured C-MOM during his recent visit to Perth that the issue between the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (Mepa) and Viset had been resolved.

Dr Gonzi also assured C-MOM that the government's target date for the unveiling of the monument is December.

C-MOM has full confidence in both of these assurances and looks forward to have its representatives and former child migrants in Malta, Australia and other parts of the world to witness the unveiling ceremony in Malta.

C-MOM is appreciative of the government's support for this monument. The government has offered the former child migrants a monument which considerably surpasses the one included in C-MOM's initial petition and is particularly pleased with the government's decision to position it in such a very central and visible location.
