At Tal-Balal in a very historical area of upper San Gwann there is what I consider to be an unusual double arch forming part of a rubble wall. I would like to know if this is unique or not.

This arch together with the chapel of St Philip and St James, better known as Tal-Prepostu, next door, has been scheduled in past years. This means that the place is meant to be preserved and protected.

However, like most of the heritage in San Gwann, the area around this arch is completely neglected if not abandoned altogether. I can also mention the Roman cistern and the remains of the Roman Tower in Ta' Cieda, as well as the cart ruts. I have been clamouring to have the ancient chapel of San Gwann ta' Gharghar rehabilitated and the old garrison at Ta' Xindi reinstated.

But it seems that what remains of our heritage in this part of the island is to remain forever in a dilapidated state. Nobody cares for a voice of the wilderness.
