Charged with indecent assault on girl, 10

A 32-year-old man has been charged with the defilement of a 10-year-old girl and holding her against her will.

The man, of Attard, was also charged with the violent indecent assault on the girl in Attard on August 2.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli heard Police Inspector Raymond Aquilina request a ban on the publication of the girl's name. The man's lawyers - Michael Sciriha and Ian Farrugia - then asked the magistrate to ban the publication of their client's name too.

The magistrate upheld both requests, banning the publication of both names. She, however, turned down the request to grant the man bail and remanded him in custody until the minor gives evidence.
