Teams from Pembroke Athleta FC and Mosta FC have just returned from Aberystwyth, Wales where they took part in the Welsh Super Cup Tournament, formerly known as the Ian Rush Tournament.
Mosta's contingent in Wales was made up of a total of 45 persons between players, coaches and parents. The Under 9 team, coached by Carmel Cortis, won the International Challenge Cup after beating South Ceredigion 2-1 in the final.
Mosta's U-14 side was under the guidance of coaches Paul Vella and Darren Muscat. They finished as runners-up in their section.
For their part, Pembroke competed in the U-11 category with a team composed of 12 boys and one girl. They managed a creditable showing, finishing with two wins, two draws and two defeats to place third in the eight-a-side league.
Pembroke also opted for an experimental participation in the 11-a-side competition where they fielded a team jointly with Melita FC.
Local rivalry was forgotten for a whole week with the combined team playing attractive football. Vodafone Malta Foundation were the main sponsors of the trip.
