St Martin's Institute of IT is offering a portfolio of degrees led by the London School of Economics and Political Sciences (LSE), whose graduates move directly into the financial services mecca, the City of London.
Students reading for their degrees with St Martin's Institute of IT may qualify for financial assistance through the Malta Government Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme, amounting to almost Lm2,000.
The three-year degrees on offer are BSc (Hons) in accounting and finance, banking and finance, business, economics, economics and management, economics and mathematics, and management.
All these degrees require the rigour of a mathematics-based bachelor of science syllabus.
St Martin's offers tuition leading to these degrees both to students who wish to study for these unique degrees as full-time students as well as those who currently hold a job and wish to study in the evening.
The financial services industry needs highly-educated specialists, such as economists, actuaries, risk assessors, asset managers and stock brokers. The LSE bases its undergraduate syllabuses on first-hand experience, passing on the knowledge to St Martin's lecturers who are all fully qualified and approved by the lead college.
Students aged 17 by December 31, 2007 are admitted to St Martin's as long as they have a minimum of two advanced levels and four ordinary levels including mathematics and English.
It is advisable that students are strong in numerical skills.
Those who do not possess the advanced level requirement may opt to read for an undergraduate diploma in economics. Successful students will be accepted to continue with their degree from the second year. Registrations are open until August 31 and acceptance is on a first come, first served basis.
St Martin's accepts only 48 students per year for the economics, management, financial sciences degrees, so early registration is recommended.
