It has become a daily routine to see letters about the English-learning students who visit our island. They practically do everything but learn English. My dad witnessed three students in St Julians last week drinking a bottle of wine. When they finished it they just smashed it against a parked car.

I was one of the first last year to write about these students as I happen to work with real tourists every day and I'm tired of listening to complaints. I'm sure these tourists will never return to Malta. Our authorities have to draw a line once and for all - or else continue concentrating on these students and only the language schools and fast foods chains will prosper. I'm sure that in the long run, we will get our money's worth from returning tourists.

And what about the damage on cars and property? Can we reclaim them from insurance? I doubt it.

I think it's about time a signed petition is organised by someone who cares about our island.
