Diesel price 'bad for business'

The Malta Chamber for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises, GRTU said yesterday that the rise in the prices of diesel was having an adverse affect on business. The price increased by 6c per litre earlier this month.

"It seems the government does not realise that diesel is used across the board. If it were aware that it's a tool, it would not allow prices to increase and keep reaping taxes from it - and then expect no one to increase prices when costs are going up," the GRTU said. Operators are facing hikes in the price of cereals and many food products. These increases, including those for fuel, would have to be passed on to the consumer, the GRTU said.
