As someone who spends three months every year on holiday in Marsascala I feel very disappointed at the idea of letting hawkers trade on the promenade, even if it is only at weekends.

Surely this is the thin end of the wedge; we shall end up with the whole of the promenade taken up by hawkers as more and more want to set up their stalls. Also the mayor's idea that they will help shopkeepers is laughable - the opposite is generally what happens. Do they pay the council a fee for their stalls? I doubt it.

I hope the mayor has the good sense to stop the rot before it is too late and Marsascala ends up just like any other litter-strewn tourist resort on the island.
