RMF Ltd has launched several initiatives to celebrate its 20th anniversary in a bid to go the extra mile to come to members' roadside assistance.

At a press conference last Monday, RMF launched the Personal Membership Scheme, covering membership for individuals, even passengers, and covering any vehicle.

RMF has also introduced a new scheme to increase motorists' peace of mind while on the road. Motorists can purchase a warranty that can extend the existing warranty on their vehicle to eight years. The initiative won RMF the prestigious ARC Transistance Innovation Award in 2006.

Because cars are becoming increasingly sophisticated, problems often turn out to be expensive. At the time of purchase, or while the car is relatively new, motorists can buy peace of mind at a fraction of the cost of the repairs.

Consumers are used to the concept of a choice of warranty; the concept will now be offered by RMF on vehicles for private use. New cars come with a dealer's warranty. The RMF scheme allows motorists to extend the warranty on a new car by purchasing an immediate extra two or three years.

Old cars benefit too. Owners of not-so-new cars may also buy a warranty. A full vehicle check is carried out first, with two options. If there are any faults, the owner may opt to have the problems fixed before buying a warranty, or accept a warranty with the faults excluded from the cover, similar to health insurance schemes. A maximum warranty of 24 months may be purchased for cars that have been on the road for three to five years. A 12-month warranty is available for cars between five and eight years old with less than 180,000 kilometres on the clock.

During the period covered by the warranty, should any problems occur, the vehicle owner will first inform RMF and then have the repairs carried out by any reputable garage. The warranty also includes a full RMF roadside assistance and replacement car cover.

Last week RMF also launched the 20th anniversary edition of the RMF Motorist Handbook which includes vouchers to encourage motorists to keep it handy in their vehicle.
