Fire at Labour MP's legal office

A legal office in St Christopher Street, Valletta, caught fire at about 9 p.m. on Friday, the police said yesterday. The office is run by lawyers José Herrera and Joe Giglio. Dr Herrera is a Labour MP.

The fire was doused by firefighters from the Civil Protection Department.

Duty Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani Grima is leading an inquiry.

In a statement yesterday, the Chamber of Advocates, while expressing its solidarity with Dr Herrera and Dr Giglio and the staff at the legal office, condemned the arson, calling it a cowardly act.

"Every form of physical and moral violence is to be condemned but such attacks, where the perpetrators hide their hands while putting in jeopardy the lives of others without caring about the consequences, are among the worst," the chamber said.
