The Foundation for International Studies (FIS) is holding a four-week course on "Aspects of the Coastal and Marine Environment" from September 4 to 29, consisting of four two-hour lectures (on Tuesday mornings) and of a Saturday morning field visit.
The Foundation for International Studies (FIS) is holding a four-week course on "Aspects of the Coastal and Marine Environment" from September 4 to 29, consisting of four two-hour lectures (on Tuesday mornings) and of a Saturday morning field visit. Ample use of multimedia will be made throughout the course.
The course should appeal to all secondary, post-secondary and University biology, environmental studies and geography students, to NGOs, journalists, public and private entity employees and interested members of the public. The course is being co-ordinated by Dr Deidun (a lecturer in the Biology Department, University of Malta Junior College) and Dr Anton Micallef (Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Insular Coastal Dynamics). Lecturers include Michelle Borg (MEPA) and Edwin Lanfranco (Biology Department, University of Malta).
The course will address aspects of Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM), coastal geomorphology and morphodynamics, beach management, ecological adaptations of coastal vegetation, coastal terminology and zoning, and an introduction to the marine environment. Participants can also choose to embark on more specialised courses at a later stage.
The course is one of a series of environmentally-themed short training courses being provided throughout the year by the FIS.
