A foreign worker is fighting for his life after he was injured in Bulebel, limits of Zejtun yesterday at about 10.30 a.m., the police said.

The man, who the police said was from "Yugoslavia", was hit by a steel mesh used in construction as it was being shifted from one place to another by a crane. The mesh is used to reinforce concrete.

On admittance to St Luke's Hospital, the worker was found to be in critical condition, the police said.

They gave no further details.

A magisterial inquiry was opened and police investigations are underway.
