Football League clubs enjoy big brother cash boost

The Football League, comprising The Championship, League One and League Two, received a shot in the arm this summer after securing £90 million from the Premier League for the next three years.

The 'solidarity package' is the biggest major investment handed to Football League clubs as a body since the ill-fated ITV Digital deal.

Next season's sum of £31.8 million will be split among clubs, yet parts of it must be spent on youth development and community programmes.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said: "The Premier League and member clubs recognise the importance of the continued health of the professional game at all levels."

This season, the Football League campaign kicks off along with the Premiership on August 11.
