Air Malta carried 880,654 passengers in the first six months of this year, an increase of over 24,000 travellers over the same period last year, an airline spokesman said.

For the first time, Air Malta flew over two million passenger in one year.

In addition, the national carrier is expecting to handle an additional 25,000 passengers this summer as a result of the latest introduction of new scheduled flights to Liverpool and Venice, the spokesman added.

The spokesman was commenting on the inroads made by Air Malta's in-flight magazine Sky Life and in-flight entertainment via video content. In July last year, Air Malta teamed up with Blue Media Marketing to offer an enhanced in-flight service that included both the magazine and the entertainment.

"Over the past 12 months, the in-flight magazine and the video content have been providing a channel of information and leisure to hundreds of thousands of passengers travelling on all incoming and outgoing flights operated by Air Malta - from Malta the airline operates to 48 destinations. The magazine and the in-flight video have consolidated their position as the first and most effective media among tourists on their way to Malta," the spokesman said.

Sky Life is available complimentary to all passengers on board Air Malta's planes.

"Every month," the spokesman added, "the in-flight magazine is packed with dynamic editorial contributed by top-level journalists focusing on people and travel, entertainment, business and lifestyle, the latest products and trends, cars, fashion, luxury goods and special features."

A spokesman for Blue Media said that through its features, Sky Life projects aspects of the historical, cultural and traditional life of the Maltese islands interwoven with modern and trendy Malta.

Sky Life also offers an informative guide about happenings in Malta through its Events Pages.

In-flight entertainment includes a number of feature films on the London Heathrow and Gatwick, Manchester, Brussels and Frankfurt routes, and light and humorous shows and travel documentaries on a broad range of topics, including a five-minute documentary about Gozo, the Blue Media spokesman explained. This service has also been introduced on flights operated by Air Malta outbound UK to Spanish destinations.

The Blue Media spokesman said no effort would be spared to continue developing and enhancing the in-flight audiovisual and print entertainment systems which are designed to provide a more enjoyable and relaxing experience to a captive audience travelling on Air Malta.
