The Parliamentary Secretary for the Elderly, Helen d'Amato has launched the 14th edition of the Elderly of the Year Award.

Activities to be held by the secretariat will reach their crux with the award presentation on October 5 at St Vincent de Paul Theatre.

The award will give recognition to an elderly person or couple who, through the manner in which they kept themselves active, were a model and inspiration for other elderly.

Mrs d'Amato encouraged voluntary organisations, parishes and local councils to nominate elderly people for the prize.

Further information can be obtained from the secretariat at 15, Merchant's Street, Valletta or from the Department for the Care of the Elderly, St Francis Square, Victoria.

Nominations should be submitted by August 31.
