The traffic caused by the closure of Regional Road, thanks to the Msida feast, was unbelievable on Sunday night. Actually, unbelievable is a huge understatement. It took me close to an hour to arrive in St Julians from Fgura.

The police closed Regional Road (as always) and directed all traffic to Msida, coming from Valley Road, where, again, police officers were on hand to stop traffic so that the procession and all the other assorted feast activities continue without any interruptions.

The traffic coming from St Julians heading south was affected evenly worse, and I was feeling bad for those stuck at Tal-Qroqq because traffic in that direction was moving slower.

The person in charge who signs off to close Regional Road - one of the most widely used thoroughfares in Malta - should be fired. It's totally stupid, it creates a huge congestion and shows lack of planning by the authorities. I think we're the only country on God's green earth to allow such things to happen just because of fireworks. Why don't the authorities find a different place for those people who let off fireworks instead of closing such an important road?

Then again, this is Malta, where common sense and logic is only optional in certain circumstances.
