Blue Flag beaches

It is indeed good news to read that St George's Bay has been awarded the Blue Flag and that the perched beach and Ghadira Bay are being given special treatment by the Malta Tourism Authority.

But let us not forget that other bays exist. This picture (above) was taken last Monday. The beach is covered in seaweed and the sand littered with cigarette butts, plastic bottle tops and other litter left behind by irresponsible bathers.

The people responsible for emptying the litter bins do a great job and go as far as picking up the empty plastic bottles and cups strewn all along the beach, but they are ill equipped to deal with small debris. This bay is frequented by hundreds of tourists and locals and deserves the same treatment as St George's Bay.
