The bicycles being used by the 27 cyclists in this year's LifeCycle Challenge from Romania to Germany, across Ukraine and Poland, between August 9 and 21 were stowed in a container and shipped to Vienna.

The container is also carrying the necessary equipment to deal with the cyclists' needs and any repairs that might be necessary.

Two physiotherapy coaches and several other medical items were also loaded.

Apart from trying to travel light, LifeCycle's aim is to minimise expense. So sponsored tinned, bottled and packed food, donated by Vivian Corp. Ltd, Alf Mizzi and Sons, Nestlè, and CP Trading Co. Ltd, were also loaded.

Six members of the backup team are leaving on August 5 to meet the container on its arrival.

They will make the necessary preparations with local authorities at the starting point, set up the first signs and ensure the challenge starts smoothly.

They will transport the bikes to the first accommodation in Bucharest, ready to be unpacked and reassembled by the cyclists.

Training is continuing with spin classes. This is of utmost importance especially for cyclists who do not own a second bike.

Donations to LifeCycle can be made online, where one could also post comments in a guest book. Such comments can help greatly to raise any flailing spirits and to give a boost when morale is low during the challenge.

Donations can also be made to the LifeCycle Account at BOV or HSBC, or by SMS - on 5061 7356 (Lm1), 5061 8921 (Lm3) or 5061 9218 (Lm5).

Donations addressed to LifeCycle Organisation can be sent c/o Renal Unit, St Luke's Hospital, Guardamangia.
