The 2006 vintage of the 1919 white and red wines has just been launched at the Marnisi Estate, in Marsaxlokk.
The wines are branded 1919 because it is the year when the founder of Marsovin, Anthony Cassar, established his business.
Mr Cassar was born in 1903, and at the tender age of 16 operated under the name A&G Cassar, together with his brother George. Marsovin was founded in 1955.
The concept of 1919 is to combine the culture of wine with art, creating a good connection between the wine and Maltese art.
Every year a local artist is commissioned to create two paintings based on the theme of The Culture Of Wine. The paintings are then used as the main feature on the wine labels.
This is the third vintage Marsovin has produced. The first paintings were painted by Debbie Caruana Dingli, the second by Kenneth Zammit Tabona. The 2006 vintage is represented by Denise Borg Millo. The 1919 white is produced from a blend of two grape varieties: Chardonnay and the indigenous Maltese Girgentina.
The wines were launched by Jeremy Cassar, director of Marsovin and Ms Borg Millo.
